Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

– 1 lb Italian sausage
– 2 bell peppers, sliced
– 1 large onion, sliced
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
– 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
– Hoagie rolls, optional for serving

1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
2. Add the sausage and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add the bell peppers and onion. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until softened and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
4. Return the sausage to the skillet. Add the garlic and balsamic vinegar. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Stir in fresh basil just before serving.
6. Serve hot on hoagie rolls if desired.
