Instructions:
Hamburger Steaks:
Prepare the Patties:

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried thyme. Mix until well combined.
Form Patties:

Shape the mixture into patties (about 6-8, depending on the size).
Cook Patties:

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the patties until browned on both sides and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Gravy:
Sauté Onions:

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and cook until soft and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
Make Roux:

Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the flour is slightly browned.
Add Broth:

Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy has thickened, about 5 minutes.
Combine:

Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning some of the gravy over them. Let them simmer in the gravy for another 5 minutes.
Mashed Potatoes:
Cook Potatoes:

In a large pot, cover the potatoes with cold water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Mash Potatoes:

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk and butter, and mash until smooth. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve:
Plate:
Serve the hamburger steaks with a generous helping of mashed potatoes. Spoon the gravy over both the steaks and the mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
