Ingredients

* 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
* 6 slices bacon, chopped
* 1 large onion, diced
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 cups chicken broth
* 1 teaspoon salt
* ½ teaspoon black pepper
* ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
* 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

1. In a large pot or deep skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving about 2 tablespoons of drippings in the pot.
2. Add diced onion to the bacon drippings and sauté for 3–4 minutes, until soft and translucent. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
3. Add the green beans to the pot, then pour in the chicken broth. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
4. Cover and simmer on low heat for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beans are tender and infused with smoky flavor.
