Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the beef:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion and garlic until the meat is browned and the onions are soft. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
3. Make the sauce:
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to coat. Slowly pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens slightly (about 2–3 minutes). Remove from heat.
4. Layer the casserole:
In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Spoon half of the beef mixture over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and beef mixture.
5. Cover and bake:
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender.
6. Optional step:
Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese if desired, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
7. Serve warm — optionally garnish with fresh parsley or serve with a side of green beans or buttered corn.
