Ingredients
1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1 cup (240 ml) milk
½ cup (115 g) melted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
2 tbsp sugar (for topping)
Optional Cream Cheese Layer (for extra creaminess):
4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
Preheat oven:
Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or similar.
Prepare the batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until smooth and well combined.
Add cream cheese layer (optional):
In a small bowl, mix softened cream cheese with sugar and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.
Assemble:
Pour the batter into your greased baking dish.
Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture on top (if using).
Arrange the strawberries evenly over the top and gently press them into the batter.
Sprinkle 2 tbsp sugar over the top for a golden, sweet crust.
Bake:
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden around the edges and set in the center (a toothpick should come out mostly clean).
Cool and serve:
Let it cool slightly. Serve warm as-is, or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!
Tips & Variations
Substitute raspberries, blueberries, or peaches for a fun twist.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of lemon zest to the batter.
Want a lighter version? Use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese.
This dessert is also great served chilled after refrigerating overnight
